Frequently Asked Questions
Recreational soccer is available for players born between 2020 and 2009 (U5-U16). At registration, players are grouped based on the year in which they were born.
For U6-U10, all games are either scheduled on Tuesday or Thursday at 6:00pm or 7:00pm. U12 and older teams play on Tuesday or Thursday at 5:45pm or 7:00pm. U13+ age groups could vary on days and times depending on size of program, field availability and referee availability. They may play on Monday nights or Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Games are played at the beautiful BankPlus Sportsplex. The best address is 655 Rutherford Rd, Tupelo, MS 38801
Coaches are responsible for scheduling practices. Fields are open to practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights (outside of the recreational season) and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Practice times/days are at their discretion.
This season, recreational soccer is offered to players born between 2018 and 2009. We do allow individual players to play up an age group but a parent must coach their team. This is for the safety and supervision of the child. This also includes 2019 players playing up their first year.
Registration for recreational soccer is not for a particular team, with a particular coach or individual. Our department forms teams in the same fashion throughout all of our sports. The only individuals that are offered the ability to make a selection is a coach. As a coach, we automatically place your child on your team. We also allow the coach the opportunity to freeze 2 players to their team. This gives a coach the ability to secure an assistant coach, sponsor, friend, carpool, etc. onto their team. All other players are randomly drafted onto teams. Please keep in mind that sports are not just an opportunity to play and have fun, it is also a time to socialize and interact. Playing sports is also a great way to meet new friends.
No. Uniforms are an additional expense. After registration is closed, your coach will contact you to confirm your uniform size and submit your team's order to Sports Country. Once uniforms are ready, they can be picked up individually and paid for. Uniforms typically cost between $30 and $50 and include your jersey, shorts and socks.
Yes. Tupelo Youth Soccer Association offers team sponsors to local businesses. There is a packet that will need to be filled out and returned to our Tupelo Parks and Recreation Department. Sponsors are able to put a 1 color logo on the front of the jersey and the team name will be listed as the sponsor's name. We have over 700 kids in our recreational program so this is a great advertising opportunity. All sponsorships must go through Tupelo Parks and Recreation Department.
Players will also need cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball. Players playing U5-U8 will use a size 3 soccer ball. Players playing U10-U12 will need a size 4 soccer ball. Players playing U13 and older will need a size 5 soccer ball.
We typically hold our coaches meetings in mid to late August. At that time, coaches will begin contacting their team.
Soccer has a 2 part season. We have one registration period that included a fall and spring season. Teams and coaches remain the same from fall to spring. The fall season runs from early September through October. The spring season runs from late February through early April.
We do not allow movement from team to team. This is restricted by our department's policies and regulated by Mississippi Soccer Association.
Mississippi Soccer Association offers District and Rec State Cup as recreational events for teams U10 and older. For more information contact Laura Kramer at (662) 841-6440
No. Teams may arrange trophies, medals or other items at the end of the season. That is entirely up to the team.
Age groups are sorted based on the year in which the player was born. This is standardized by United States Youth Soccer. Here's the breakdown for birth years:
U5- 2020
U6- 2019
U7- 2018
U8- 2017
U9- 2016
U10- 2015
U11- 2014
U12- 2013
U13- 2012
U14- 2011
The "U" means under. Players playing U5 means they are 4 or turning 4 by the end of the year (2024). We try to create age specific groupings when possible (i.e. U5 and U6 separate divisions rather than U5/U6 divisions playing together). This depends on registration each season.
Historically, we have enough players to have separate boys and girls divisions for soccer. There are times where we've offered coed U13/U14 groups to ensure we still have a league for those age groups.
Of course! We're always looking for coaches for recreational soccer. Coaches must complete a background check and safesport certification online.
